Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I'll be going documenting how I go to where I am and where I am headed!!

Shit Hit The Fan!

Shit Hit The Fan!

Good morning!  Or afternoon or evening, this is a good one.  You know when you think things are all lining up and smooth sailing is just around the corner?  Yeah, that’s how I felt when I had my staff all lined up and the new store open and operating.  We were going to crush it, we just needed a little time to let everyone know we were open and how great we were.  I had a plan to go up once a week on Mondays to check in and make sure everything was ship shape and we started off just like that and then…

I was at the Montrose location in the afternoon, things were going well and we were busy.  The phone rang and I looked at the caller ID, it was the Junction store.  No alarm at all because we had been calling each other a ton as we worked out the kinks and got things squared away.  I figured it was just another quick question for me to answer.  In a way, it was a quick question but one that I was in no way prepared for…

Me: “Hey man, what’s happening?”
Jon: “Uh… I think I just broke my ankle, what should I do?”
Me: “What the… how did that happen?”
Jon: “Well I was test riding a bike and I missed the rear brake and crashed”
Me: “You missed the rear brake??  Wait, you were riding a wheelie??”
Jon: “Yeah and I missed the brake and looped it out, what should I do?”
Me: “SHIT!!  Go to the damn hospital and I will be up there soon”

I don’t know if that is the exact interchange that happened but its close.  I do think there were more bad words but we don’t need all of those.  As you can imagine I was floored.  I couldn’t believe that just happened.  The emotions I felt at that moment were too numerous to count.  I was pissed, angry, scared, sad, worried and on and on and on.  I called Ruth and told her what had happened.  I didn’t even know how this was going to affect my life yet.  Things were about to go from stressful to overwhelming immediately and I had no clue what was in store.

Thanks again.  I am keeping this one short because it takes a while to describe the next events.  Ugh, what a crappy time that was, right when I needed a break, I got one.  Well, my employee got multiple ones.  Sorry, that’s not funny but it kind of is.

I hope you all have a great day and if you don’t have one happen to you, make your day great all by yourself.  It’s a choice we all have to make every day.  I wish I had had a better grasp on that concept when this all happened.

Today I am grateful for Labor Day last weekend, playing with my boys and the fact that God loves me even when I am at my worst!

I'd love it if you would share this blog with people who might get something from it or enjoy reading it.  Thank you again for reading!
